Janisse Ray, award-winning American author, explores the borderland of nature and culture in her books and popular Substack, Trackless Wild. She wrote the classic environmental memoir Ecology of a Cracker Childhood, a story of growing up in the disappearing longleaf pine flatwoods. Her 11th book, Journey in Place, is forthcoming.
Simmons Buntin is the author of Satellite: Essays on Fatherhood and Home, Near and Far; a collection of sustainable community case studies titled Unsprawl: Remixing Spaces as Places; and two books of poetry, Bloom and Riverfall. He’s also the co-editor of Dear America: Letters of Hope, Habitat, Defiance, and Democracy and founding editor-in-chief of Terrain.org.
Sueyeun Juliette Lee grew up three miles from the CIA. Her latest book, Aerial Concave Without Cloud (Nightboat Books), meditates on starlight, survival, and resilience after intense grief. She currently consults to environmental and conservation organizations across the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, and Alaska.
Petra Kuppers is a disability culture activist and community performance artist who teaches at the University of Michigan. Her fourth poetry collection is Diver Beneath the Street (2024)—true crime meets ecopoetry at the level of the soil, at the membrane of life and death. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2023.
