Overview

Already we are on to the final day of the Terrain.org booth (510) at the bookfair of the Annual Association of Writers and Writing Programs annual conference: Saturday. Good folk, if you haven’t yet stopped by the booth, now is the time (though I’m sorry to report we are out of chocolate).

Overheard at #AWP16

“Magazines can be driven by the writers, the staff, or the readers. Great magazines are driven by the readers.” — Chip Blake, editor-in-chief of Orion magazine.

The Coolest Contributor Story Ever

Tom Montgomery Fate told me the coolest contributor story ever last night: Following the publication of his video essay (with Dwight Irwin) titled “Lake Glass” in Terrain.org two Septembers ago, Tom was contacted by a representative of a consortium of Colorado community colleges who viewed and loved the essay. That resulted in the purchase of 5,000 copies of Tom’s wonderful book Cabin Fever, plus a tour across Colorado communities to read from and discuss the book, plus a very nice additional payment I’m not at liberty to share. Wow, what a dream story!

Tom, we look forward to your donation… 😉

Best Beer

Following the conference yesterday I joined the good folks from Boston College who edit Post Road  and enjoyed the very smooth and flavorful Red Trolley Ale from Carlsbad’s Karl Strauss Brewing Company. It was an Irish red. It was delightful.

Up Next

Day three of the bookfair, plus, for me, readings for The Sonoran Desert: A Literary Field Guide at noon and the Salmon Poetry 35th anniversary anthology this evening.
