Ceremony Nearly every week there a large ceremony at a local village. Initially, I thought the ceremonies were for the pleasure of tourists since they are so delightful to watch. Clearly, however, they are for the villagers themselves. During my visit, I was usually the only Westerner at the celebrations. Here, a Balinese man holds his son. Both are dressed in traditional garb, and the rice on their foreheads indicates that they have been to the temple. Photo by Colin Donohue. |
