Yozo Takada : Transit ~ Photographs Japanese photographer Yozo Takada aims to consider our life and world from an objective point of view by photographing artificial environments that alter earthly landscapes while simultaneously supporting changes of relationship between people and nature. He has created several series, including Windscape, which focuses on wind turbines throughout Japan, Simscape, which focuses on a laboratory known as “mini-earth” that studies the ecosystem in northern Japan, and Blue Box, which focuses on a small and abandoned island where his grandmother was born. Blue Box is a long-term project that will last until the last inhabitant has gone from this island. In 2008, Takada received a grant from the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs to live and work in the U.S. for a year. He started a new series known as Transit City. He focuses on three urban developments as the prototype of “city”: Biosphere 2, Arcosanti, and Manhattan. Through the comparison of these built environments, he attempts to reveal the potential of what the city involves. Yozo was born in Sapporo, Japan in 1971. He lives and works in Tokyo. He holds a degree in art and design from Tsukuba University, and has exhibited in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Ibaraki, Japan, as well as Tucson, Arizona.
